5 Okanagan Destinations for Fall RVing

If you think the RV camping season is over when summer ends, think again.

Fall might just be one of the best times to explore the Okanagan by RV.

The summer crowds begin to disappear, temperatures become more comfortable, vineyards and orchards take on beautiful autumn colours, and the pace throughout the valley slows down.

And that’s exactly what makes a fall RV trip so appealing.

You don’t necessarily need a week-long vacation or a complicated itinerary. Sometimes all it takes is a few days, a full tank of fuel and a destination in mind.

From Penticton to the South Okanagan and into the Similkameen Valley, here are five destinations worth putting on your fall RV adventure list.

1. Penticton

Let’s start right here at home.

Located between Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake, Penticton is an easy place to build a fall RV getaway around.

Once the summer crowds begin to thin, the city takes on a more relaxed pace. The weather is often comfortable for getting outside, and there is still plenty to see and do.

Fall is a great time to explore Penticton’s:

  • Hiking trails
  • Cycling routes
  • Lakeside areas
  • Restaurants and breweries
  • Wineries
  • Local shops
  • Orchards and vineyards

The Kettle Valley Rail Trail is another great way to experience the area’s scenery. The trail connects Penticton with areas including Naramata, Okanagan Falls and Summerland, offering beautiful views of the lake, vineyards and orchards.

And here’s the thing about Penticton:

You don’t always have to drive five hours to have an adventure.

Sometimes the best RV trip is the one that’s right in your own backyard.

2. Naramata

If wine country and beautiful scenery are your idea of a perfect fall getaway, put Naramata on the list.

The Naramata Bench stretches along the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake and is known for its vineyards, orchards, lake views and collection of wineries and other craft beverage producers.

Fall brings a completely different look to the Bench.

The vineyards begin changing colour, the temperatures cool down and the landscape takes on those classic autumn shades.

You can spend the day exploring wine country, stop for lunch, take in the views over Okanagan Lake and then return to your RV for the evening.

And that’s one of my favourite things about RV travel.

You can spend the entire day exploring somewhere new, but at the end of the day, your own little home base is waiting for you.

For an RV weekend, Naramata gives you that perfect combination of scenery, food, wine and outdoor adventure.

3. Summerland

Just north of Penticton, Summerland makes an easy fall escape without requiring a long road trip.

This is another destination where you can combine outdoor activities, wine country and harvest season into one weekend.

Explore the vineyards and orchards, take a scenic drive, enjoy local food or get out for a hike.

The Bottleneck Drive area is home to wineries and other beverage producers, while Summerland’s surrounding landscape offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Fall is also harvest season, making this an especially beautiful time to drive through the valley.

The roads wind through vineyards and orchards, the leaves begin changing colour and the whole area feels like it’s transitioning into a slower season.

It’s close enough to Penticton for an easy getaway, but once you’re there, it feels like you’ve escaped.

4. Oliver & Osoyoos

Now we’re heading south.

Oliver and Osoyoos are two of my favourite places to explore in the South Okanagan, especially when the summer heat starts to fade.

This area offers a completely different landscape from the northern Okanagan.

You’ve got vineyards, orchards, mountains, desert scenery and Osoyoos Lake, all packed into one incredible region.

And if wine is part of your ideal RV adventure, you’re definitely in the right place.

Oliver is known as Canada’s Wine Capital, and the surrounding wine region offers plenty of opportunities to explore local vineyards and tasting rooms.

One stop worth adding to your itinerary is District Wine Village in Oliver.

It’s designed as a single destination where visitors can explore multiple wineries alongside food and other craft beverage experiences. The Village currently lists wineries, food, events and other experiences, with hours varying by location.

And then there’s the Black Sage Road.

If you’re exploring the Oliver area, the surrounding wine country makes for a beautiful fall drive.

Just remember that if you’re planning to enjoy wine tasting, arrange a designated driver or shuttle rather than driving your RV between tasting rooms.

Krista’s Pick: Gallagher Lake & Oliver-Osoyoos

Okay, this one is personal.

If I were planning a fall RV weekend, Oliver and Osoyoos would be right at the top of my list.

I love staying at Gallagher Lake Camping & RV Resort.

Located just outside Oliver, Gallagher Lake is situated on a spring-fed lake and makes a convenient base for exploring the South Okanagan. Oliver Tourism currently describes it as a great base for exploring the region during the spring and fall seasons.

From there, you’ve got Oliver, Osoyoos and wine country within easy reach.

You can spend the morning exploring, stop for lunch, visit a winery or two, and then head back to the RV for a relaxing evening.

And I have to tell you about one of my absolute favourites.

Silver Sage Winery

I can never get enough of this place.

Silver Sage Winery is located in Oliver and produces wines from Okanagan-grown grapes and fruit.

For me, it’s one of those places that just feels special.

The setting.
The wine.
The atmosphere.

It’s one of those places where you can sit back, take in the vineyard views and think:

Yep. This is exactly why I love the Okanagan.

If you’ve never been, put it on your list.

And if you’re building a fall RV trip around Oliver and Osoyoos, this is one of the stops I’d personally recommend checking out.

5. The Similkameen Valley

Finally, let’s head west.

The Similkameen Valley offers something a little different from the traditional Okanagan wine-country experience.

Think orchards, farm stands, mountain scenery, small communities and wide-open roads.

Keremeos and Cawston are particularly interesting during harvest season, when local farms and orchards are busy bringing in their crops.

It’s the kind of place where you don’t need a packed itinerary.

Take a scenic drive.

Stop at a farm stand.

Pick up some fresh local produce.

Enjoy the scenery.

Then find a quiet spot to relax and let the RV do what it does best: give you a comfortable home base while you explore.

If your idea of a great RV trip is slowing down instead of rushing around, the Similkameen Valley deserves a spot on your fall list.

Planning Your Fall Okanagan RV Adventure

Before heading out, remember that fall is shoulder season.

That means campground hours, attraction schedules and winery availability can change as summer winds down.

Before you leave, check:

✔️ Campground operating dates
✔️ Reservation availability
✔️ Winery hours
✔️ Road and weather conditions
✔️ Local fire restrictions
✔️ Overnight temperatures

And don’t forget your RV.

Cooler fall evenings mean you’ll want to make sure your furnace is working properly and that your batteries, propane supply and tires are ready for the trip.

Why Fall Is Made for RV Adventures

There’s something about exploring the Okanagan in the fall that makes an RV trip feel different.

The pace slows down.

The roads are quieter.

The vineyards begin changing colour.

The orchards are full of harvest activity.

The evenings become perfect for campfires.

And you don’t have to go far to find something worth exploring.

Whether you’re starting in Penticton, heading up to Naramata and Summerland, travelling south toward Oliver and Osoyoos, or venturing into the Similkameen Valley, there’s still plenty of adventure waiting.

So don’t put the RV away just yet.

Fall has arrived in the Okanagan.
