The Okanagan is one of Canada’s most underrated RV destinations. Just a few hours from Vancouver or Calgary, with more than 200+ Days of sunshine a year, world-class wineries, mountain views, and a lake system stretching over 135 kilometers, it’s the kind of place that turns a weekend getaway into a week-long stay.
Our team has been based in Penticton for over 45 years. We know these highways, backroads, and campgrounds the same way most people know their own neighborhoods.
These are our genuine picks for the best RV camping in the Okanagan, not just the usual tourism-board list.
1. Okanagan Lake Provincial Park — Summerland | Peachland
Split into two separate sections on the shores of Okanagan Lake, this park is one of the valley’s best all-around camping experiences. The North Unit is better suited for larger motorhomes thanks to wider roads and more level sites. Full hookups, beach access, and spacious sites make it feel like actual camping instead of camping parking lot.
Book early. Sites for July and August are often gone by March.
2. Haynes Point Provincial Park — Osoyoos
This campground sits on a narrow sand spit stretching into Osoyoos Lake, which means most sites are less than 30 meters from the water. The lake itself is the warmest in Canada, averaging around 24°C in July.
Smaller units tend to do better here since pull-through sites are limited, but the setting is hard to beat. The small beach at the tip of the spit is one of the hidden gems of the South Okanagan.
3. Bear Creek Provincial Park — West Kelowna
One of the most scenic provincial parks in the valley. Bear Creek Canyon runs directly through the property, creating a dramatic backdrop of cliffs, trails, and rushing water. The lake frontage is exceptional, the washrooms are well maintained, and full hookup sites are available.
Kelowna is only about 20 minutes away for groceries, fuel, or supplies.
4. Kicking Horse Campground — Keremeos
A quieter private campground along the Similkameen River just off Highway 3. It flies under the radar compared to the larger provincial parks, which also means you can sometimes still find a site during shoulder season without booking months ahead.
Fishing, peaceful surroundings, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere make this a great basecamp for exploring the Similkameen Valley wineries and fruit stands.
5. Peachland Beach & Municipal Campground
One of the valley’s most underrated spots. Peachland’s waterfront is every bit as beautiful as Kelowna or Penticton, and this campground places you right on it.
You’re within walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream stops, and some of the best sunset views on Okanagan Lake. Electrical sites book quickly, so reserve ahead if hookups are important.
6. Wright’s Beach Camp — Penticton
Right in our backyard. If you’re bringing your RV into Midtown RV for service, warranty work, or a pre-trip inspection, Wright’s Beach Camp on Skaha Lake is only about 10 minutes away.
The beach is sandy, the swimming is calm, and you’re close to Penticton’s breweries, restaurants, farmers market, and lakeside pathways. It’s an easy, stress-free spot to settle in while work gets done.
Tips for RV Travel in the Okanagan
• Highway 97 is the valley’s main corridor and connects most major campgrounds. Many sections are still two lanes, so expect slower traffic during peak summer weekends.
• Osoyoos and Oliver are ideal for shoulder-season camping in May and September. The weather stays warmer longer, and the crowds thin out considerably.
• Several wineries offer overnight RV parking. Nk’Mip Cellars and Road 13 Vineyards are both worth checking into ahead of time.
• Cell service can become unreliable in canyon areas and mountain stretches. Download offline maps before heading out.
If you’re travelling through the Okanagan and your rig needs attention, whether it’s routine maintenance, warranty repairs, diagnostics, or a pre-trip inspection, Midtown RV is located right in the heart of Penticton and central to all of it.
